Sunday 12th Nov is Remembrance Sunday. We've created a window display to share some stories & objects about the First & Second World Wars. Inside the Town Hall we have many resources which can help trace the lives of ancestors & relatives who fought in these conflicts.

Elfelred is taking a peek at our Wigan Quarter Sessions collections. He's been naughty as these court records are from 1927 & access is restricted for 100 years! We hold the Quarter Session records from 1733-1971, when the Courts were abolished & superseded by the Crown Courts📚

Thank you mark reid for showcasing our exhibition! We've done a little bit of digging:- James William Mayall (1863-1942) was the groundsman at Leigh Cricket Club and he also played. In 1901 he was considered to be the 'best batsman in the district.' 🏏

Today marks 50 years since Wigan Council was formed, following the Local Government Act 1972, which came into place on April 1, 1974. The move brought together several former local government districts to create Wigan Borough. #LocalGov50
