🎆 Happy #VictoriaDay! 🎆 We're closed today, but you can enjoy the sight of fireworks minus the sound with this photo of Victoria Day celebrations at Ashbridge's Bay in Toronto in 1985 — a highlight from our collection of over two million photos from the The Globe and Mail.

In 1956, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources trapline manager John Macfie photographed the Suganaqueb family from Webequie First Nation at Neskantaga First Nation. They had travelled over 100 km by canoe for Treaty Time, an important occasion for reconnecting with distant friends and family.

Family isn't just about sharing DNA. It's about love, loyalty and the people who show up for you. Chosen family are the friends who stand by your side, lift you up, celebrate your wins and make you laugh—like Donald Bruce Macdonald and his friend in this photo from 1952.

Nothing beats a good family recipe. 🍪 Northrop & Lyman's Family Recipe Book (late 1800s) features an array of medicinal remedies, but we think the mouth-watering treats like fried tomatoes, ginger snaps, apple dumplings and "egg kisses" might be more effective cure-alls.

Born in 1934, the Dionne quintuplets made family history when they gained worldwide fame as the first quintuplets to survive infancy. The sisters were raised on public display in Corbeil, near Callander, Ontario. Today they're remembered for confronting their exploitation.
