The Natural Environment Research Council Arctic Research Station Access Scheme 2023/24 call is open! Don't miss out on this fantastic funding opportunity - deadline is 14th July! Details here: bit.ly/44psdVw British Antarctic Survey 🐧 NERC Arctic Office

#Svalbard fieldwork at NERC Arctic Research Station is well underway for Jaz Millar, Emily 🐝 and Maddy. Hopefully some interesting results to put towards the The Leverhulme Trust iDAPT project and Emily and Maddy's PhDs. And lovely weather as well!

Another good day #BIOPOLE sampling by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology team in Svalbard. Lots of great rivers to choose from. We're going to have a very busy month!

The British Antarctic Survey 🐧 #REMUS project is a long-term soil warming experiment, which is located at Kongsfjordneset. The team have been busy adding water to 24 plots, sampling leaves & roots of S. polaris and B. vivipara, along with soil, and carrying out any necessary repairs to the OTCs.

It's been a good couple of days supporting the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology team who have been busy setting up an algae trap in Bayelva and doing some water sampling below Feiringbreen as part of the BIOPOLE project. #UKinArctic British Antarctic Survey 🐧 Natural Environment Research Council.

Fascinating to hear the Poet Laureate Simon Armitage's early thoughts from his visit to Svalbard. More to come later this year via BBC Radio 4. His visit to the NERC Arctic Research Station has coincided with fieldwork by UKCEH scientists working on the BIOPOLE programme ❄️

A second #FieldworkFriday post because this place deserves it! Ny Alesund is such a stunning place to work. Two more weeks to go and lots more to do! Now back to the lab to filter all the water samples we've collected today. BIOPOLE NERC Arctic Research Station UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology

Three weeks into the #Svalbard trip, with a full team! Tom Harvey has joined Jaz Millar, Emily 🐝 and Maddy and they're heading back to each glacier site to see how the #glacier #algae blooms have developed The Leverhulme Trust NERC Arctic Research Station NERC Arctic Office

Was great to see a BIOPOLE science talk by Prof Bryan Spears from UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and Prof Kate Hendry from British Antarctic Survey 🐧 while in Ny Alesund last week. The talk was open to all in the community and was very well attended. Thanks to @NorskPolar for organising it! @KRHendry

And that's a wrap on the first BIOPOLE land based field campaign! What an incredible month. Over 1500 samples collected including water, sediment, #GHG, and eDNA. Big thanks to everyone who has helped us make this a success! UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology NERC Arctic Research Station British Antarctic Survey 🐧

While this polar landscape may seem serene, it's not at #peace. Our British Antarctic Survey 🐧 media team has been working from the NERC Arctic Research Station in Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard, this week to capture & communicate how the #Arctic is changing due to #climatechange and how that's impacting the globe.
