Tanner Jernigan demonstrated incredible bravery while conducting research at Tybee Island. He noticed three children playing in the surf as a large vessel approached. They were caught in a strong tide & pulled farther out. Without hesitation, Jernigan dove in to rescue them.

An ERDC team recently assembled a robotic arm to process dredged sediment into complex structures. The geometric shape, an initial “oyster dome”, can be post-processed into hard substrate to allow both colonization by marine organisms & energy dissipation for coastal resilience.

ERDC has improved the Modular Protective System-Overhead Cover to better defend against drone attacks, which are increasingly targeting infrastructure, key assets and critical resources in conflict areas. The updated design can withstand direct hits and is quick to assemble.
