We review 3 decades of research on MNE-Civil society interactions. What do we find? 1. Contexts: many countries are understudied as contexts of #conflict or #collaboration between MNEs & civil society. Clue: not the ones you think! In the map, the darker the more UNDERstudied

2. What is the nature of MNE-Civil society interactions in an international context? They are as varied as can get! Table 1 in the paper (and below) shows examples which reflect ALL sub-domains of #international #business studies as defined on the #JIBS website.

3. What causes conflict or cooperation between MNEs & civil society? 4. And what are the outcomes of these interactions? The figure below (Fig.#3) summarizes the reviewed literature, which covered journals in #IB, #management, #sociology, #nonprofit studies, and related areas.

5. Interactions between MNEs & civil society are often linked to crucial #societal issues (#environment, #labor relations, #globalization), but the examination of societal outcomes is conspicuously absent. More work is NEEDED on how MNE-CS interactions affect societal outcomes!

6. What else is missing from the literature? And what can you do about it? Our Discussion section summarizes gaps and provides examples of research questions to advance research on MNE-Civil society interactions (Table here: shorturl.at/gluH9)
