Most of you wailing about selling some Federal land are probably very happy we sold the “public” airwaves for your private cell phone use. Privatizing the airwaves made them much more useful to the public. marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolu…

'If the government sold 0.05% of its land and designated it for starter homes on small lots, developers could build about one million homes over the next decade, at prices roughly $100,000 lower per dwelling than current new construction.' A common misconception. The reality is that the median home value within a mile of BLM land is $460,000. The larger problem is the same as sprawl in the West - these homes tend to be built at about 4 per acre. We'll need to triple that density to get a million homes built.

The key to building a million homes on BLM land is legalizing small lots. Las Vegas metro has done this well, but the rest of the West, not so much.

Chicago is such an interesting city from an inequality perspective. Million dollar new homes less than a mile away form <$250k homes built in the 1920s. In most metros, this happens between cities, not within them.

Thoughtful and limited development of federal land—in areas that currently see little use and are located near existing infrastructure—means making room for more families with only minor tradeoffs.  ifstudies.org/blog/families-… Jim Dalrymple II

In less than a year, this has gone from a niche package to the best way to produce quick, professional maps in R or Python.

"What’s weird about IZ is that it’s essentially taxing housing in order to subsidize housing, which doesn’t make sense if your concern is the cost of housing."

I completely missed how groundbreaking SB 1123 is in California: ✅By-right lot splits up to 10 lots ✅60 day shot clock ✅1,200 sqft lots ✅Downzoning is now illegal!? It says vacant lots only, but you appear to be able to buy a single-family home, tear it down (vacant), and
