Mohammed Elbayan from Chad just won the Halstead Marathon with a record time. He learned English through sport and became a champion. There are no "strangers" we should fear, but neighbours whose contributions enrich us all. Congratulations Mohammed! gazette-news.co.uk/news/25158302.…

Yet more harrowing evidence coming to light about how the last Government let appalling conditions to develop in its detention centres. It must be a warning to current leaders to listen when we speak out about the conditions people are forced to endure. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Though the horrific overcrowding may have improved, Manston still detains hundreds every day and the public has little knowledge of the conditions inside. With an expansion plan in place, we remain concerned about the treatment of people held there: independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Spot the difference 🤔 New poll shows people are isolated by the cost of living, technology & the legacy of covid. But some papers didn't let facts stop them rushing to praise the PM for blaming migrants. They couldn't be more wrong. Solidarity fixes communities, not division.

A child threw this letter over the fence at Manston detention centre. Read it, and imagine being a parent trying to protect your kids in these conditions. Harrowing report by Holly Bancroft shows how suffering inside Manston was ignored: independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

We don't count people's worth in numbers. It's hard to watch politicians celebrate falling migration just days after they labelled people who've built lives in this country "strangers". So today, and always, we want to be very clear: Newcomers are welcome and they always will be.

Migration is a completely natural phenomenon. People have been moving for various reasons since the beginning of time — it has always happened and always will. And our lives, our cultures, and our communities are all the better for it 🧡

This is straight from the Tory playbook; people seeking asylum are not Foreign National Offenders, why conflate? It is perfectly legal, and enshrined in the Refugee Convention, for people seeking asylum to travel via irregular routes. It’s a pivotal aspect of refugee protection.

The Home Office talking about "clamping down" on asylum is appalling. They either don't understand the law or don't care about it - it's hard to say which is worse. Everyone has the human right to seek asylum. Entering a country in order to ask for protection is never illegal.

We've heard a lot of statistics about migration and asylum today - but there's one number no one seems to be talking about. Nathan Phillips tells LBC News how the numbers of people dying in our asylum system continue to be ignored.

More proof that the hostile environment is bad for everyone. As if the devastating human cost of immigration enforcement raids wasn't enough, taxpayers will now have to foot the bill for damages because the Home Office wanted to showboat about them. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

After weeks of negative talk about people who've moved to this country, there's one message we think all politicians need to hear. This isn't an island of strangers - it's an island of solidarity. Stop the dangerous rhetoric and let's all stand together.

After a week of appalling language and attacks on migrants' rights, share this if the politicians who try to divide our communities don't speak for you. We are not strangers. We welcome newcomers, we share and learn, we build new bonds - and we always will.
