#AACTourism | MEP Eliza Vozemberg MEP, Chair of the TRAN Committee, recalls the importance of tourism for Atlantic economy and the need to work at EU level to protect the environment, cultural heritage and work on common challenges. 🌍

🗣️ Ramune Genzbigelyte-Venturi (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship & SMEs) shares updates on the EU Tourism Transition Pathway to boost sustainable tourism. She recalls EU tools & funding to support Atlantic tourism through local businesses, circularity, climate change adaptation, governance and data. #AAC

🇪🇺 Sandra Silva provides insights on INTERREG Interreg Atlantic Area. She presents funded projects on nautical industry, bicycle, recreational trails, slow tourism & geoparks. She offers guidance on the next call for projects and key areas to explore. #AACTourism

🗺 Last Friday, the Managing Authority of #Interreg Atlantic Area introduced a state of play of cooperation on #tourism at the #Atlantic level in a seminar holding by Atlantic Arc (CPMR) 🇫🇷🇮🇪🇵🇹🇪🇸

Follow-up of the #AACTourism Seminar on 20.09 ➡️ Michel Durrieu (Nouvelle-Aquitaine) highlighted the need to manage tourist flows in areas like the French Basque Country & Arcachon. Marcos Niño (Principado de Asturias) presents regional efforts on Biosphere reserve. #SustainableTourism

Susana Ribeiro (Visit Porto and North of Portugal) shared funding challenges tied to tourism stats in Porto. Mary Daly (Donegal County Council) & José Santos (ERT Alentejo) highlighted the impact of short-term rentals on local communities and stress the development of more sustainable accommodations. 🌱

🌍 To tackle tourism challenges, regions implement various key initiatives: José Santos (ERT Alentjo) focuses on welcoming immigrant populations & attracting digital nomads. Susana Ribeiro Visit Porto and North of Portugal outlines the importance of an investment agenda for sustainable tourism.

To address #AACTourism challenges at the transnational level, Michel Durrieu Nouvelle-Aquitaine suggests creating cooperation through Atlantic tourism observatory for informed decision-making. Mary Daly Donegal County Council advocates for EU projects to share knowledge & best practices.

Finally, speakers highlight the need to align local & national governance frameworks while collaborating with industries, academic institutions & small businesses. Overall, they agree on the importance of ensuring a dialogue between stakeholders to propose adapted strategies. 💡

📣 Nicolas Castay, Director of GIP Littoral, introduced a project on tourism flows management in the #Atlantic area. Planning to address key challenges (climate change, environment, touristic flows...), it will create new collaborations among Atlantic partners. Stay tuned!
