1) @_SarahShaukat (Tufts University) and Attique Ur Rehman (Univ. of Delaware) use the FATF grey-listing of Pakistan and the subsequent deregistration of NGOs across tehsils in Punjab as a natural experiment to estimate whether NGOs are effective in improving development outcomes.


#NEUDC2024 #Session3 Non-State Actors chaired by Vijayendra Rao Sarah Shaukat finds that NGO presence boosts education, healthcare, and stability in Pakistan, especially for women; closures lead to declines in these key areas.
