Glad to be here at this somewhat strange #AGU2021 with Audrey Thellman … though hybrid sessions and commercial length talks are weird, hallway convos are 🔥 🔥 so happy to reconnect and reinvigorate

#DukeEcology's People and Nature Symposium is (finally) happening on April 9! We have an amazing lineup of speakers who will discuss environmental justice, ethnoecology, and place-based research. In-person attendance is limited, so register early! bit.ly/PeopleAndNatur…

#DukeBGC celebrates Wundergrad Tyler Edwards (center) at the end of four years Duke University. In our lab, Tyler counted 100,000 stream bugs to start a new long-term Hubbard Brook ecological record and produced a podcast series about Hubbard Brook spoti.fi/3rBKpKK - Yay Tyler!

Hyporheic zones can be ecologically important even in unsaturated or dry conditions, as are common in non-perennial streams. Learn why! journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/72…

[#DukeBGC at #JASM22 #1] On Monday at 4pm, data scientist (and incoming PhD student) #SpencerRhea will tell you about our compilation of 145 watershed ecosystem records from across the US in his talk "MacroSheds: Integrated Watershed Data for the United States"

We just published the overview paper on how freshwaters are responding to changing winter conditions. This is part of an AGU JGR-Biogeosciences Special Issue focused on winter limnology that grew out of a (just barely) pre-pandemic Chapman Conference. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/20…

Also huge props to our “Ice is going” Duke University Climate+ Data+ team of Biniam Garomsa, Hector Ontiveros & Henry Sun who helped turn 1000s of Audrey Thellman’s camera trap pictures of streams into a machine learning informed model of river ice phenology with help from #WesSlaughter

Had such a great time with the Burkepile Lab (and surprise treat Audrey Thellman) talking long term ecological data at the US LTER All Scientists' Meeting. Excited to see what comes next... 🤓
