This is the JMP of my PhD student exploring the effect of a major religious celebration on risky sexual behaviours of sex workers in Senegal. He was awarded the best student paper by iHEA.

In our last paper, we did a small experiment to see if a boost in self-affirmation among female sex workers will encourage them to increase the uptake of HIV prevention services. We found no impact but luckily were still able to publish those results 😄

We found that insuring women engaging in transactional sex against health shocks led to a decrease in HIV infection at 12 month by 88% We are also proud to share that we just received additional funding from the UKRI to explore the role of economic shocks on HIV acquisition 🥳

Yesterday I presented the results of the POWER study that found that insuring women engaging in transactional sex in Cameroon against illness led to a decrease in HIV infection by 88% #IHEA2023Congress

In sub-Saharan Africa: - 6 of 7 new #HIV infections are among girls aged 15-19 - #AGYW (15-24) are twice as likely to be infected with HIV than men - 63% of new #HIV infections are among women Our new paper explores the role of economic gender inequalities for the HIV crisis.
