#gingerplantoftheweek is #etlingerafimbriobracteata from Borneo flowering now in a glasshouse Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in Edinburgh: data.rbge.org.uk/living/20051848. This species is easily recognised but the reniform anther crest (red in the photo) and also occurs in the Philippines.

#gingerplantoftheweek is #etlingera polycarpa endemic in Sulawesi now having many fruits in a glasshouse Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Edinburgh: data.rbge.org.uk/living/20021894 The species was collected at Tomohon by the Sarasins in 1894, described by Schumann in 1899 and illustrated in 1904 (shown).

#GingerPlantOfTheWeek flowering today Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Edinburgh, is #Alpiniazerumbet, a typical ‘shell ginger’ representing a branch of ginger evolution in great need of taxonomic revision! This plant data.rbge.org.uk/living/19751777 is of unknown origin; the species is widely cultivated.


#gingerplantoftheweek is #Tapeinochilos pubescens (Costaceae) from Papua New Guinea flowering now Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in Edinburgh: data.rbge.org.uk/living/20171077. This is probably the first time this species, which only occurs in New Guinea, has been cultivated and produced flowers in Europe.
