Went to Toledo, Spain to see this. Museum shut early, didn’t realize till I was on the train, ran up a hill to arrive 10 mins before closing. Worth it - those colours! 3rdC CE, Santa Cruz Museum.

#MosaicMonday Even seemingly workaday floors in #Roman buildings can be a delight. This from Oplontis/Villa Poppea reminds me of 1950s/60s kitchen linoleum. But the bits of coloured stone and marble in the mix show it's rather posher than that - maybe even Nero's wife's villa.

Returned to its original splendour, looking magnificent. Congratulations to all the team. I’ll be hosting workshops with the public in the church on 12th January. Participants will be able to see and enjoy the newly restored Eric Newton mosaics and have a go at making their own!
