Yes folks it's a #Moss. It's Dawsonia superba the world's largest self supporting moss. This thing grows over 20inches tall & has a vascular-like structure for moving water around - not what you thing of when you think of a moss huh? (found by us in the Waima forest #NewZealand)

If you're interested in working in #ScotlandsRainforest, or know a young person who is, how about this as an excellent way to get started: Bryophyte Trainee with Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Our rainforest woodlands contain hundreds of species of mosses and liverworts! buff.ly/dBxC7Y0

The enthusiasm for all things Nature by Wales Peatland Action colleagues is infectious! Dr Peter Jones MBE was delighted to share his photo of fruiting Spalchnum, found yesterday at Cors Bodeilio. It’s a dung-dwelling moss, found on a fen grazed by wild ponies. BBSBryology
