Wonderful evening Birmingham City University Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with the Maestro Shankar Mahadevan accepting an Honorary Degree - made all the more special by the company of his brothers in music John Mclaughlin and Zakir Hussain. Extraordinary and very moving.

Lovely to be at Edgbaston again for our Birmingham City University Loyalty Awards. Thank you to everyone for your contribution without which we would be so much poorer.

Congratulations to Professor David Mba, announced as the incoming Vice Chancellor Birmingham City University - it will be a huge wrench to retire from this unique university in October, but I'm delighted to leave it in such safe hands for the next stage of its journey.

Congratulations to Holly Hendry - wonderful to have such a special piece of public art for our city.
