The beautiful Magpie moth (Abraxas grossulariata) is one of our species to see this month 😍 Most abundant on northern heather moorland but can also be found in gardens, allotments, hedgerows and woodland. 📷: Patrick Clement, Mark Parsons, Dave Shenton #MothsMatter #MothMonday

Buff Footman in the garden trap this morning. New for here, but seems to be going from strength to strength after first appearing in NE Scotland just four years ago. BC Scotland

A mini-rush of new garden moths last night in #Portsoy. Nothing unexpected but Pine Carpet and Black Rustic were also new for hectad. Also Brown-spot Pinion, Canary-shouldered Thorn and Agonopterix nervosa (not pictured). BC Scotland

Unfortunately it didn't play ball for good photo but I was delighted to have seen my first ever Loch Leven Wall Brown at Levenmouth this morning. It's only the second one I've heard about locally. It was quite territorial, chasing off Peacocks.

Despite heavy rain nearly all night the haul was 523 of 54 in the MV and 52 of 16 to Sugar (4sp not recorded at light). Probably one of my bigger September catches. Also an insane number of Violet Ground Beetles to sugar last night #TeamMoth #MothsMatter

The Old Lady of North Berwick have now been and gone for 2024. At first I bemoaned how few there were, following a couple of yrs with bumper counts. But looking at the data (red line) 🤓 this year wasn't that bad! How will they do next year? #Data #ShiftingBaseline #MothsMatter

It's been a busy year for West Lothian Council. Managing 24 wildflower meadows, 7 sites of high-density bulb planting and 9 raingardens in parks is good news for pollinators. Flowering and fruiting trees have also been added to several parks. 🐝🪲🦋🍎

Great turnout for our #BogSquad work party Friends Of Langlands Moss to clear scrub. If left, the trees will dry out the bog, threatening special #biodiversity. Thanks to all those that helped out. A great way to celebrate #StAndrewsDay. Thanks to Peatland ACTION for support &📷 Jackie Reid.

Our Achnacree #BogSquad work party in #NorthConnel #Argyll was a great success removing a large area of #InvasiveRhododendron, despite the hail storm at lunch #Thankyou very much to all our volunteers that took part on the day
