Write up from new post-doc in the lab, Deepto Mozumdar, and former post-doc Bálint Csörgő on exciting new paper showing how to genetically manipulate tricky bacteria!

Excited to share our latest work in Science Magazine! The talented #Synbio duo @scalefreegan & Amanda Hughes explored the transcriptional consequences resulting from scrambling pieces of the genome & putting them back together in a random order... Excellent thread by Aaron👇

We have two jobs closing soon EMBL! 👩🔬 #1 A bioinformatics postdoc to develop new analytical tools & inform experimental directions: embl.org/jobs/position/… 🧑💼#2 An enthusiastic programme manager for Life Science Alliance. Diverse role with comms, strategy etc embl.org/jobs/position/…

Very happy to announce I will be starting as a junior PI this fall HUN-REN Biological Research Centre, Szeged! Many many thanks to all of my colleagues and mentors in the labs of Gyorgy Posfai, Csaba Pal Laboratory, Joe Bondy-Denomy, Lars Steinmetz who have helped me along the way!

Our preprint Joe Bondy-Denomy on a newly discovered bacteria immune system against a group of nucleus-forming jumbophages is out (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…). We named this immune system “JUmbophage Killer” (Juk). 1/n

Amazing work by Viktória Lázár and Roy Kishony. This should be definitely the next item on your reading list. 🧐

1/4 We are excited to open our postdoc #fellowship call for applications between EMBL & Stanford Medicine or Stanford H&S to enable collaboration & international training. stan.md/LSAfellows Show us your idea for bridging two leading institutions! 📅27 Jan 2023

Years long hard work has finally borne fruit with our paper out in Nature Microbiology! We studied antibiotic resistance #AMR by employing engineered #phages to deliver large DNA libraries into clinical strains together with GáborApjok SysBio-Szeged Read more: rdcu.be/c5j34

Happy to have played a part in this project spearheaded by Sergey Melnikov group, goes to show what kinds of exciting biology can be discovered by studying extremophiles!

Thrilled to share our latest work, "Antibiotic candidates for Gram-positive bacterial infections induce multidrug resistance" in Science Translational Medicine! For details, see the thread below and read the paper here: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

🚨 Excited to share that our new study, “ESKAPE pathogens rapidly develop resistance against antibiotics in development in vitro” is just published in Nature Microbiology. For details, see the 🧵below and read the paper here: nature.com/articles/s4156…
