Congratulations to BGSU Biology professor Dr. Vipa Phuntumart who was presented with the 2023-24 College of Arts & Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award! She was recognized for her dedication to science education, commitment to undergraduate research and scholarly contributions.

August is #NationalWaterQuality Month. As part of the University's mission as a public university for the public good, College of Arts and Sciences researchers are working to improve water quality in the region, nation and world. bgsu.edu/waterquality #bgsu #waterquality #publicgood

.Aquatic MicroBiomes Lab @ BGSU of Great Lakes & Watershed Studies, BGSU will research how the microbial community in a freshwater estuary shifted after a dam removal, leading to the disappearance of toxic cyanobacterial blooms and improved nutrient cycling. @GBullerjahn Silvia Newell BGSU Biology jgi.doe.gov/announcement-f…

Harmful algal blooms in Sandusky Bay have disappeared. BGSU Biology emeritus professor George Bullerjahn & a team of BGSU student researchers believe the 2018 removal of Ballville Dam, near Fremont on the Sandusky River, is the reason the blooms are gone. bit.ly/4eEqvER

BGSU Biology researchers are studying how plants capture & convert nutrients in order to better construct or restore wetlands, which are critical in the efforts to protect Lake Erie from harmful algal blooms. #bgsu #biology #waterquality #research bit.ly/4ezBIXH

Come check out this great event from our department including a seminar by incoming Great Lakes & Watershed Studies, BGSU Director and Biology faculty Dr. Sarah Emery, followed by a thought-provoking film screening and panel discussion.

Great panel discussion tonight about regenerative agriculture following a thought provoking film screening. Thanks to all who supported the event. Great Lakes & Watershed Studies, BGSU American Society for Microbiology BGSU Helen Michaels College of Arts and Sciences

BGSU alumnus Gustavo Cañas-Valle ’24 and BGSU Biology professor Juan Bouzat discovered hummingbirds nesting together in the Andes Mountains. This is atypical behavior, as hummingbirds are often highly aggressive and territorial. #bgsu #biology #research bit.ly/43lKvK0

BGSU Biology This event has been RESCHEDULED for Thursday, April 17, at 7PM in the BTSU Theater, Room 206. We hope to see you then!

We had the pleasure of hosting Neil Shubin for our Pasakarnis-Buchanan lecture this year! It was great to learn more about his work and experiences near the North and South Pole and his discoveries in tetrapod #evolution! He even passed around a replica of tiktaalik’s skull!

A Great Lakes & Watershed Studies, BGSU research team led by BGSU Biology assistant professor Chris Ward is studying the effects of bits of pre-production plastic, called nurdles, leaching chemicals into water systems. #bgsu #waterquality #research #publicgood bit.ly/4mpQLYe

Congrats to Julia Obuya who won the Outstanding Student Paper Award at the IAGLR annual meeting!
