Today is day 15 of a hunger strike by 6 JVP members here in Chicago in protest of the deliberate US-Israeli starvation of Gaza. So far neither Tammy Duckworth nor Senator Dick Durbin have agreed to even meet with them. Why won’t you meet with your constituents?

Programs like Medicaid and SNAP literally keep people alive. This isn’t a reconciliation bill, it’s a big death bill.

Among many other terrible things in Trump’s tax bill, the proposal would thro hundreds of thousands, even millions, of working class students off federal aid. Not only would this rob students of the right to an education, it would further knee-cap state colleges

.JVP Chicago hunger strikers are entering their third week without calories. They report fatigue and pain, difficulty regulating their temperatures and difficulty walking. It's so upsetting that they have been put in this position. I hope their demands are met soon.

A former student asked me how it was the state legislature could imagine shutting down whole majors, fields of study, even whole colleges in Indiana. I mean, this is a bourgeoisie that doesn’t want to know about *the weather.* The fucking weather. Pure dipshit nihilism

The attack on public higher ed has been a decades long bipartisan affair: the MAGA wrecking crew wld not have been possible had not yrs of austerity, from GOP & Dems alike, saddled generations of students w debt; destroyed tenure. It is free college for all, or nothing

The attack on public higher ed is mostly about class: Indiana Gov Braun went to Harvard; he has a net worth of 100m. He does not think working class people deserve to engage ideas, to read, understand science, to have a few years to explore what might be a different future

I am starting to think the massive and sudden disinvestment in health and welfare - Biden allowing the CARES ACT to expire - and now the gutting of Medicaid, Pell Grants and SNAP is not despite the increase of people w disabilities, but rather because of it
