The highlight of our #NewYearPlantHunt this year was this rather stunning Small Scabious, Scabiosa columbaria at Humphrey Head, #Çumbria. We managed 8 species in total here. #Wildflowerhour with Lindsay Maskell

It's always a delight to see my favourite monoecious plant (Hazel, Corylus avellana) coming into flower. Here are the male and female flowers side by side. A sure sign spring is on its way! #wildflowerhour BSBI Ireland





Delicate cherry-plum (Prunus cerasifera) blossom in nearly-spring sunshine: an early-flowering Prunus, distinguished by its green flowering twigs and turned-back sepals. New flowers of colt's-foot (Tussilago farfara), which appear early, before the leaves, to be pollinated by flies & early-flying bees. A cure for coughs too!
