Mexican poppy start germinating at Gatton. This seed is at least 3 yrs old, suggesting its long persistence GRDC North Chauhan lab UQ

Took advantage of the long weekend in Qld, I spent the weekend in NSW & finalised 5 trial sites on Phalaris mgt in wheat & chickpea: integration of crop competition with herbicides. Thanks GRDC GRDC North Chauhan lab UQ QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation

5 trials on Phalaris control in wheat and chickpea establishments around Moree. 2 trials on wild oats. Ryegrass & wireweed next around Tamworth. Stay tuned. Thanks to GRDC North UQ News QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ

Gatton (24th May): Heavy damage of PRE herbicides in wheat but no damage in chickpeas. These fields received >100 mm water after planting. Sakura & Mateno treated plots received the most damage. GRDC North QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ Mark Congreve

Field walks in NNSW; phalaris/paradoxa grass management in wheat & chickpea GRDC North QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ UQ News

Paradoxa grass/phalaris may surpass wild/black oats & become the most problem weed in winter crops in NNSW. Thanks GRDC North for supporting this work. QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation UQ News Chauhan lab UQ

Integration of crop competition (narrow rows or high plant density) with herbicides GRDC North QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation UQ News Chauhan lab UQ

Performance of PRE herbicides on phalaris in wheat (Crooble, NSW); crop damage in trifluralin+avadex treated plots (ticked). Planted by tynes (IBS) so imagine crop damage in disc systems; Thanks GRDC North QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ Field day 19 June

PRE herbicides effect on phalaris & wheat (Bellata, NSW); Crop damage (>90%) in Triflur+Avadex-treated plots. Sakura & Mateno provided excellent weed control with no crop damage. Thanks GRDC North Chauhan lab UQ QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation UQ News & Mathew Langfield

Wireweed management in wheat and chickpea at Tamworth; too early to comment on herbicide efficacy as weed is still emerging. Thanks GRDC GRDC North for funding these trials. QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ

Integrated mgt of black/wild oat in wheat at Collie (1 hr north of Dubbo). Wheat seed rate + PRE & POST herbicides. Too cold (1 July). Thanks GRDC North for funding & GOA (Maurie & Ben) managing this trial. QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ

Phalaris mgt in wheat at Bellata (2 July). Axial didn’t touch any Phalaris >2 leaf but Sakura & Mateno have provided 100% control even after 8 wks of spray. GRDC North QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ

Wireweed (WW) trials (Tamworth): Too dry for WW emergence; site is heavily infested (see WW residue from last yr) but no emergence yet. This is beauty of no-till as weed seeds remain on or near surface & dry top soil won't allow weed emergence. Thanks GRDC North GRDC QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation

Beware: Annual ryegrass is spreading now around Dalby; probably resistant to most POST herbicides bcoz came from southern regions. Get rid of it before becomes serious. GRDC North QLD Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation Chauhan lab UQ
