(1/) This week’s ‘Talon Spotting’ trend is Kestrel. This small species of falcon is familiar to many of us, mainly due to its habit of hovering when it is hunting. It is currently quite widespread across the UK. BTO JNCC RSPB Science

An excellent engagement event, just across the border in Staffordshire, with four of the Shropshire WMRG team present. All credit to West Midlands Ringing Group for such a friendly, professional and well organised ringing demonstration.

The latest dates for "guide in the hide" at Venus Pool NR near Shrewsbury this month. You don't need to book, just turn up. The reserve and car park may be busier than usual at these times so bear this in mind if you plan to visit but are not attending the event.

March is the best time to listen for the Wood Warbler-like song of Willow Tits, typically in areas of wet scrub. Please look and listen for them and send any reports into @birdtrack or, for Shropshire, email details to [email protected] youtube.com/watch?v=HUrMrX…

Sunday is the last Core Count of the WeBS winter period (Sept-March). But did you know that counts are carried all year as it provides important info. about migrating birds using the East Atlantic Flyway to fly back north, as well as those that call the UK home all year round?

BirdTrack data shows that the big arrival of Chiffchaff in the last week is around two weeks earlier than the long term average. Many summer migrants to the UK are now arriving earlier as a response to climate change bto.org/our-science/pu…

Shropshire’s Rookeries 2025 survey gets a nice plug on the local BBC. Please do add your sightings to this project if you can, there’s a link in the feature. It’s such a brilliant but accessible example of local ornithology. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
