Congratulations to Tobey Paccione ’26, electrical engineering, who was recently awarded an IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarship. He was one of 34 recipients out of more than 100 applicants. Tobey is spending this summer conducting research University of Notre Dame.

Our 4-week Engineering EXCELerator bridge program came to a close last week with all five groups presenting their projects. Two groups created VR worlds based on space, there were two ChemE car teams and one group that researched and created a Corsi-Rosenthal box air purifier.

We had a group of about 20 international counselors visit us today. It was nice to showcase our labs and college to them. Thank you to students Min Sub Lee ’26 and Bernard Iringire Nkusi ’27 for sharing their perspectives, and to the Admissions Office for arranging the visit.

One of our Engineering EXCELerator Chem-E-Car teams was just .7 meters off of their final distance goal of 16.8 meters! They received that distance goal just three hours before their final run and had to calibrate their vehicle to get as close as possible to that distance.

KJ Portillo ’26, MechE, was on campus this summer exploring whether a change in pressure influences sound waves based on amplitude, frequency and wavelength. As part of her research, she placed a micro speaker and microphone inside a sealed pipe system and adjusted the pressure.
