My CARE Authorization Act, which I worked on with Congressman Jim Baird and is now law, specifically says that Secretary Marco Rubio SHALL appoint a Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts. Last week, Secretary Rubio said he would comply with these requirements. Clearly he lied.

In the early post-withdrawal days, finding economic support for allies left behind was difficult. Once the invasion of Ukraine took place, it became even tougher. By now, I know of no one with extra funds to help - despite there being increasing need. Does anyone have leads on

Last week in #Afghanistan de facto authorities publicly flogged at least 63 males & 4 females. These gross punishments that violate int'l law have increased massively in 2025 & must stop. A stark reminder that Taliban must not be normalized and no Afghans abroad forcibly returned

I asked SIV & USRAP allies overseas to share their feelings about the end of Enduring Welcome/the Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts. I received so many responses that I'll have to write a second piece. Please keep sending them - this also goes for advocates/volunteers.

This week, the Taliban is tracking women leaving UN offices, following them home and threatening their fathers/husbands not to allow them to return to work. Afghan women are risking their lives. The international community needs to stand up to the Taliban and support them.

NEWS: Trump's travel ban fully restricts entry of nationals from 12 countries, sources told CBS News: Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.  It partially restricts entry of people from seven

The Trump administration has issued a sweeping new travel ban—including Afghanistan. Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders are exempt from the ban. Afghans can still apply for SIV status. But let’s be clear: tens of thousands of others are now blocked from entry. 🧵

Al Qaeda, whose members plotted 9/11 from the safe haven that the Taliban provided them in Afghanistan, is resurgent in Afghanistan and supported by the Taliban, but I’m “so clueless it’s hilarious.”

Still think irony is dead? Pakistan, founder of Taliban and father of terrorism, just got picked to chair the UNSC Taliban Sanctions Committee and become vice chair of the Counter Terrorism Committee. Yup, that is true. If that doesn’t make you laugh-cry at once, nothing will.

Silence is not an option. If you want to come on The Afghanistan Project to talk about an ascendant AQ, repetition of pre-9/11 conditions, the dangers our allies face, or the deployments or non-military duty tours you went on in 20 years of conflict in Afghanistan, I want to host
