The time consumed by a tiny minority of pupils / parents & therefore the cost to schools is staggeringly unfair, more so given the negative impact this has on the silent majority of pupils & educators.

Here is a recording of the Department for Education Pupil Premium webinar (the word webinar is an abomination, I know!). I hope that people might find it useful. @joeybagstock Essex Research School Nick Worsley youtube.com/watch?v=fTvDkM…

Desks in rows or in groups at tables? "In all three classes on‐task behaviour doubled from around 35% to 70% as the conditions changed from tables to rows. Moreover, rate of disruption was three times higher in tables conditions."

I really worry when people say but they are SEND that we potentially engage in a race to the bottom. I’ve taught children with SEND who have achieved incredible outcomes & been immaculately behaved. SEND doesn’t mean lower the bar. That’s insulting for those kids & fails them.

🚨These results are concerning. We must begin to tackle the socioeconomic disadvantage gap, we cannot see it continue to widen. It's clear that we must focus on the early years and prevent the gap from widening through a young person's education. schoolsweek.co.uk/eyfs-results-d…

Some choose to ridicule the idea of being ‘woke’. But for me it’s simply a way of talking about working at being a well-informed, thoughtful, compassionate, respectful human; alive to the insights, contexts & needs of others, in order to make the planet a more just place for all!

I cannot say this enough. Schools cannot hold up the whole world. Housing, jobs, dentistry, doctors: we need other policy areas to work if there’s any chance at improving children’s lives.

Raising the bar on reading! ‘Simply reading challenging novels aloud, and at a fast pace in each lesson, repositioned ‘poorer’ readers as ‘good’ readers, giving them a more engaged, uninterrupted reading experience over a sustained period.’ Who, in education, wouldn’t love

Interesting new attendance report published by the Department for Education. Unsurprisingly, year on year patterns are persistent - poor school attendees maintain negative trends, although it seems more amendable to change in primary school than secondary. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/681db69a…
