Happy #shellfishsunday ! Our #bayscallops are 13 days old. They aren't big enough to settle down yet, but they are swimming around like pros. We are going to be setting oysters on shells this week too, more baby shellfish photos and videos to come!

Oysters AKA ecosystem engineers b.c they create vital habitat. At our Southold facility, we use recycled shell as substrate for juveniles to create our #spatonshell oyster reefs. We're expanding our #shellrecycling this year! Thanks @northforkoyster for donating shells!

CCE is part of a pilot project with the Town of East Hampton to test the feasibility of growing seaweed in Accabonac Harbor in order to bioextract excess nutrients that could otherwise fuel harmful algal blooms and lead to anoxia. Seaweeds easily extract it from the water column.
