Very grateful to CIHR and NSERC / CRSNG for supporting my research BAETZ LAB in improving yeasts to produce more biofuels and other chemicals from agricultural waste. Hopefully, this will go a long way to boost Canada's bioeconomy. Thank you Justin Trudeau #NextGenCanScience

We are constantly inhaling fungal spores. The number will vary with season and weather, but on the order of ~1000 spores/day is on the more conservative end. This helps explain why this #FungiFriday some of the plates I retrieved from our stocks are already occupied!

Good turnout for Doors Open Ottawa, where Eugene Fletcher and I are showing groups some of the work we do at the OISB. Awesome high-throughout plate pinning and fluorescence microscopy using the great #yeast model organism! uOttawa | Faculté de médecine, Faculty of Medicine

What are the sex of your cells? I worked in cells for 2 years in my MSc and I only knew Hela were female from the Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks. Today I learned that HEK 293 are also female. A fantastic set of talks about EDI and SDGA+ @CSMB2019 physiology.org/doi/full/10.11…
