26 "tech experts" recently wrote a letter to Congress urging crypto skepticism. In it, they lay out a Catch-22 for crypto privacy: a) Blockchains are privacy-exposing b) But privacy solutions are "a gift for money launderers" An unsolvable contradiction?? Spoiler: no. 👇

We've been hard at work making general purpose zero-knowledge transactions accessible. In this thread we want to describe a fundamental technology that helps us get there: Proof compression. medium.com/aztec-protocol… ↓

It seems Justin.eth Drake and I have solved this. Concrete params seem worse than hyperplonk for high degree gates, but still this seems to imply univariate plonk in linear time! hackmd.io/@arielg/ryGTQX…

Nova was left for future work in this SHA256 benchmarking effort by Celer Network. Here is my attempt (hopefully no bugs🤞) github.com/avras/nova-sha… Proving time for 64 KB input: under 3 minutes Peak memory usage: 190 MB Proof size: 10,000 bytes h/t Examples in the Nova repo

I’m quite used to the cruelty students can face when they apply for a US visa but this one broke me. We offered admission to a stellar, talented & hardworking student. After months of work and hundreds of dollars, an embassy officer saw him for 5 mins & said no. why? …

1/ We're excited to share the initial release of Jolt, a new approach to zkVM design. Early benchmarks indicate it outperforms RISC Zero by ~6x and SP1 by up to 2x. Major optimizations are still in the pipeline.

My today on-plane reading: Incredibly awesome zkDL++ research by Ingonyama team: They address a key challenge in generative AI watermarking — maintaining privacy while ensuring provability. I am extremely positive about this use case for zk as it’s a huge problem in AI that

Who's implementing polar bear and teddy bear in plonky3? 👀 Polar bear could enable using degree-3 extensions, curious on how this can affect efficiency (and security?) in STARKs and sumcheck

A 7x improvement on top of an already 100x improvement? The chads at Ingonyama just did it, introducing an improvement on Stwo that delivers 7x faster proving. Proving will no longer be a bottleneck anon. x.com/Ingo_zk/status…

Introducing AIR-ICICLE❄️ Plonky3 meets ICICLE—write AIR circuits in Plonky3, generate traces in ICICLE, and build custom STARK provers with GPU acceleration. A major breakthrough from Karthik Inbasekar & Suyash Bagad, enabling Plonky3 users to leverage ICICLE for high-speed proving.

Fun historical story that most people don’t know: when the US National Institutes of Standards and Technology selected Keccak to be the new Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA3), they knew that it was inefficient—that it did a lot computation that wasn’t necessary for security. ⤵️
