Lets hope the 314 MPs who said yes to #PhysicianAssistedSuicide last week get to read this and House of Lords take note, and don't listen to the smoke & mirrors put about by supporters of this bill Touching the Assisted Suicide Void firstthings.com/touching-the-a…

Touching the Assisted Suicide Void firstthings.com/touching-the-a… Dan Hitchens lifts the dark veil of the assisted suicide polemic. As a palliative care physician, thecritic.co.uk/the-grim-reali… Alexander Chula’s example is all too familiar. The foolishness of MPs leaves me speechless.

I've written to BBC Radio 4 Today with the hope that the role played by the House of Lords will be presented more accurately in future programmes. I wonder what Lord Speaker has to say of this curtailing of the Lords' legitimate constitutional function?

It's an important point. I'm loathe to shout "Bias!" but the intro to the interview did err in saying that the Lords upholds decisions of the commons. I suspect the presenter meant to say "I imagine your position will be..." but she didn't, and gave it as a point of fact.

Little 🧵 exploring precedents for the Lords to do something other than just 'uphold' whatever cobblers the Commons sends them.

Lord Falconer has no problem with the rejection of government bills by the House of Lords, but now he says the House of Lords has no right to reject a hastily debated and terribly written private member's bill? What changed, I wonder?

'inadvertent misinformation' & a useful correction. You may like sausages but you don't want to see how they get made. So with laws, they say. But it's kind of important that we understand. If we face professional hastening of people's deaths, let's know how we got there.

This is outrageous and typical of the promoters of the bill. IT IS NOT FOR PEOPE FACING CERTAIN AND SEVERE SUFFERING. There’s nothing about certainty or suffering in the bill. It is for anyone whom 2 docs think has a 51% chance of dying within 6 months - including those who want

It won't be the first time that a multi million pound campaign has changed Britain for the worse, but this time the life-and-death nature of what's proposed is perhaps nearer the surface than usual. There's no real mandate for this dangerous Bill.
