उत्तर प्रदेश के लगभग आधे जिले भूजल का अत्यधिक दोहन कर रहे हैं। वर्ष 2023 में धरती में उपलब्ध हर 10 में से 7 लीटर भूजल निकाला गया। भूजल दोहन की इस रफ़्तार से भविष्य में राज्य को और भी गंभीर जल संकट का सामना करना पड़ सकता है।
