You’ve just fired up Championship Manager 97/98 and slipped into The Reds’ hotseat. Who’s on the transfer list? Who are you looking to bring in?

A twenty-third minute goal… In what remains The Reds’ only victory in an away league season-opener since 1976, Clint Marcelle’s first goal for the club helped Danny Wilson’s men lay down a marker for the 1996/97 campaign in a 2-1 win at The Hawthorns.

So I say don’t judge on stats (I know - ME!) You say well judge on pedigree then. I point out he’s also England youth. So now it’s about inspiring the fans. “This signing doesn’t excite me enough.” What? When you watch him play? “No, when I look at his Wiki page.”

Swear some of our fans care more about the idea of new signings and debating whether or not they will do well, than actually watching the sport.

Call me old-fashioned. I enjoy watching footballers play football as opposed to, you know, arriving at the club. I enjoy watching goals go in as opposed to, you know, looking up how many goals someone…actually I enjoy both those things to be fair. 🙈

The day Adam Hammill signed for Barnsley on loan from Liverpool, this sarcastic comment was posted on a fan forum. So maybe keep your powder dry and judge new signings on performances for the club instead of their Wikipedia.

David McGoldrick will start on minus four goals for The Reds on account of the goals he’s scored for Southampton, Ipswich Town and Derby County against them over the years. Other Reds in ‘negative equity’ include Sam Morsy, Michael Smith and Jamie Cureton. Debt.
