Stellar work by Alex Gorelick and Barry S. Taylor out today in nature. A true privilege to have contributed (just a little) to this paper.

The second paper from the lab, this time with the fantastic Alex Gorelick and Barry S. Taylor on the role of composite mutations (2+ mutations in the same gene, in the same tumor), out today in @nature nature.com/articles/s4158โฆ A thread on my thoughts... [1/n]

"Weโre looking at a phenomenon thatโs been staring people in the face for a long time." Finding driver mutations may be more complicated than was previously thought, according to a new nature study by Barry S. Taylor, Ed Reznik, & Alex Gorelick. bit.ly/2TKXTD0

Congratulations Ed Reznik Barry S. Taylor - fantastic work on an important topic in cancer genomics. Major implications for epistatic interactions between mutations. #mskimpact MSKCC Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) The Halvorsen Center for Computational Oncology

Superb nature paper by Alex Gorelick (need a postdoc anyone?) co-mentored by Barry S. Taylor & Ed Reznik. Nearly 1 in 4 tumors hv composite mt & are often a combn of less common hotspots e.g PIK3CA composite mt in breast cancer (see @VasanNeil paper bit.ly/2ZMxl87)

Huge congrats to Ed Ed Reznik, Barry Barry S. Taylor , and Alex Alex Gorelick! Was great to see this project evolve from conception to stellar final product @sloan_kettering!

Great thread from former ACS grantee Barry S. Taylor, whose new study reveals the prevalence and level of complexity of composite mutations in cancer, providing an eye-opening experience especially when the two mutations occur in a single copy of a gene.

In silico modelling can distinguish functional from benign #MAP2K1 and #MAP2K2 mutants but canโt explain variabilities in #DrugResponse, Hanrahan et al report: bit.ly/2OrCBHt @sloan_kettering Amber Kiliti @moriahgabrielle @alexshoushtari Abdel-Wahab Lab David B. Solit, MD

1y ago today: AACR #MBCO - incredible networking session w/ Ross Levine David Kirsch, MD, PhD David B. Solit, MD Carl June Barry S. Taylor + many more. Miss this group. #COVID19 has altered how we meet, but has NOT altered the importance of amazing colleagues/friends who brighten our lives!

Nice piece on โฆCancer Discoveryโฉ today about the relevance of multiple mutations in the same genes. Summary of different stories recently published. โฆโฆ@sloan_ketteringโฉ โฆBarry S. A new preprint from Alex Gorelick, Payam A. Gammage, and my lab describes our labor of love to understand mtDNA mutations in cancer. Wow did we learn a lot. A few highlights:

A testament to the power of grit, creativity, and collaboration on the part of the amazing Preethi Srinivasan and Chai Bandlamudi. Congratulations to the entire team and especially Michael Berger for being a wonderful collaborator and colleague throughout this long journey. x.com/chaiband/statuโฆ
