2/ here is an example of the tooling we developed in ERMES, this is an editor in JavaFX generated out of an Ecore metamodel (the metamodel represents all the logical and physical devices in a Railways station)

4/ because of the difficulties in using current meta editor technology in the ERMES project, we developed several prototypes in Sirius, JavaFX, Typescript and more recently in Autocad. For more information ermes-project.org

3/ the outcome of the editor is a model from which generating a visual control panel to visualize the trains crossing the station or the outcome of simulations
