The Bats 'N' Viral Bytes team study transmission of #rabies virus in wild vampire bats to inform interventions – but how do they do this? The team are working with the Glasgow Science Centre (Glasgow Science Centre) to develop an interactive exhibit to take visitors behind the scenes of bat research.

We are recruiting a post-doc (or talented PhD student) who is excited about combining computational tools and field data from food animal systems to address practical questions about the interplay between virus evolution, immunity, and epidemiology. #virus #fmd #prrs #livestock

In our quest for new vampire 🦇roosts, we travelled 300km to another department called Ica; with some intensive asking-around at different government institutions, 4 days later, we finally found a new vampire bat roost, next to the sea with many pinnipeds around🤩🌊🦭THANK U team

📄 PUBLICATION | Rita Ribeiro & colleagues map partially observed disease reservoirs such as vampire bats by using innovative statistical modelling to pinpointed high-risk areas for future viral incursions in rabies-free zones. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… Bats 'N' Viral Bytes @UofG_SBOHVM

Spatial modelling with Rita Ribeiro and @JMatthiopoulos found that most vampire bat roosts in the rabies endemic Peruvian Andes remain undiscovered. This may explain the limited ability of bat population control to reduce spillover doi.org/10.1098/rspb.2… MRC-Uni of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research @UofG_SBOHVM
