Wrapping my next column for Analog this week. While I have a few authors I think meet the mark, I want to ask you guys: Who are the up-and-coming authors you think will play a big role over the next 25 years?

Let us remember the great Roger Zelazny, born on this day in 1937. Be it for his CHRONICLES OF AMBER or DILVISH THE DAMNED, few authors of sword-and-sorcery or heroic fantasy ever did so with the touch of surrealism and myth Zelazny did. Do you have a favorite Zeleazny story?

Happy Birthday to the late Ken Kelly who is the absolute king of book covers in my library - having done by far more covers of books I️ like than anyone.

Happy 122nd birthday to Manly Wade Wellman, famous for his Appalachian and Southern twist on fantasy and sword-and-sorcery, including perhaps his most famous creation, the silver-stringed guitarist JOHN THE BALLADEER. Who among you have a favorite story of John or Wellman?

We've lost the legendary Peter David. A giant among a generation of comic readers, he was maybe the most important writer on Aquaman, who he turned into a gruff, sword-and-sorcery warrior king.

I doubt he's the only one, just the only one admitting it. By the by, sword-and-sorcery fans? Conan begins to enter the public domain in 2028, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser in 2035, Jirel of Joiry in 2030. Just in case you want to start planning.
