March is roaring in. Small hail, 0.35 inches of rain, thunder, lightning, and now wind gusts to 55 mph with snow. All since midnight.

Landowners are using controlled burns in area pastures today. A challenge in this area is afforestation, or grasslands being taken over by Eastern red cedar. They’re the black trees on the hillsides in the video that can be killed by 🔥restoring pastures and grassland habitat.

Sun’s out so it’s a great day to run through the planters. #plant25 starts next week.

The cows are enjoying the morning before it gets too windy. We graze cattle on crop residues to recycle nutrients, clean up volunteer corn, and decrease residue levels making no-till management and strip-till mamangement easier in our environment.

Can’t let the seed sit in the bag. #Plant25 is a go for corn and soybeans. The soil temp is 38 degrees and we’re expecting blizzard conditions by morning. We’ll see what emerges!

It was a great day and a great group of students to visit with about Bayer technology and cropping systems. The history of corn and soybeans was a highlight, and most got to see cotton for the first time.

It’s the earliest we’ve ever had to irrigate the WestBred Wheat plots at Gothenburg, NE. Pay attention to moisture conditions in your winter crops and how emergence is progressing in your spring crops to see if a pass with the pivot is needed. #irrigate25 #Bayer4NE
