Year 9 are studying The Arrival for their Novel Study. During English they have been learning about people emigrating and taking difficult journeys. They have been doing some amazing work in preparing themselves to write a journal based on somebody’s journey to a new place.

As part of their BTEC Home Cooking sessions, Post-16 have been learning to make a béchamel sauce from scratch to use for their macaroni cheese. They followed instructions to create a roux and then continued to produce their sauce ending up with some excellent examples.

For P.E, Years 10 and 11 have studied football skills, fitness skills, hockey skills and also badminton throughout the different terms. All the students are really enjoying the different ways they can improve their skills showing our core values #Ambition and #Endeavour.

In Humanities, Nurture 2 have studied the geography of India and tropical rainforests. Students created their own rainforest plant with adaptations. There were some gruesome plants, inspired by the Venus fly traps that could swallow anything from the size a fly to a small car.

This week in Creative, Nurture 1 have been learning about mixing colours using the colour theory and using different shades of colours to create gradients. We have been very impressed with the creations made and willingness to experiment with paint. Well done, Nurture 1! 😊

Nurture 3 have been using formulae in Excel. Students learnt the structure of formulae by taking part in an auto-marking activity that gave instant feedback, before applying learning to their theme park spreadsheet to find the total expenditure with some reaching billions!

Students from Westfield 2 have been learning all about money in Maths as part of their Entry Level award. They have been working hard learning various skills including counting money, adding money together and converting between pounds and pence. #ambition #endeavour

Westfield Post-16 are doing extremely well at work experience. At Sam's place they have tried out a range of crafts and been working in the kitchen helping with the baking. At Floralands, students take pride in their work and care really well for the animals that they work with.

Some of our students have been to meet the Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey Team at the National Ice Arena. They had the most amazing time talking to players and watching them practice. The students also had a go at ice skating; there were lots of falls, laughter and memories made.

Year 9 are studying the ‘The Arrival’ for their Novel Study. In Art and Creative students have produced some outstanding work! They have been learning to draw portraits and painted them using sepia art and been designing and creating cushions based on the Kindertransport.

Last week Beech Academy welcomed families of Year 8 pupils for afternoon tea. This was inspired by our novel study ‘Titanic: Death on the Water’. The afternoon tea was certainly a 1st class experience, allowing pupils to demonstrate their culinary skills - a magic moment for all.

The charity Leon’s Legacy came into school to teach CPR, how to use a defibrillator and the recovery position to Year 11. Students used stethoscopes to hear their own and others, heartbeats. Everyone passed ‘Learning to Save Lives with the East Midlands Ambulance Service’ award.

Wishing all our students, families and staff a lovely relaxing Easter break. Not forgetting a special happy birthday to our school dog Millie who is 6 today!
