How much will additional U.S. tariffs affect China's clean energy industry? Not as much as you'd think. For example, the U.S. is only 7% of the global market for solar power, and even the EU&US together are less than 20%. Rapidly falling costs have catalyzed strong demand growth

Check our #COP29 summary. For 🇨🇳,🧵: a) Used the language of climate finance to talk about 🇨🇳’s overseas aid for the first time -- “provided and mobilised project funds of 177bn+ yuan". Means 🇨🇳 is on a par with🇬🇧, to become the joint fifth-largest provider of climate finance.

How is China's EV boom affecting gasoline demand and electricity demand? It has been hard to find precise data on this so here's a thread working out some numbers.

China industrial data release today reports that "large-scale" power generation grew only 1% year-on-year, with the rest of demand growth covered from solar&wind. Yet, coal&gas-fired power inched up by 1.4%.

Tomorrow, China releases numbers for CO2 and energy intensity reductions in 2024. Based on preliminary data, I expect the 2024 targets for both to be met. Yet, China will remain badly off track due to the emission surge during and after zero-Covid which caused a major shortfall.
