A change in the weather has picked the birding up a bit. Photos of the Red Crested Pochard, 2nd summer Kittiwake and 2 Sanderling. Note the black edges to the primary coverts ageing the Kittiwake.

We've had a few Sanderling passing through this past week, with a range of transitional plumages. This rusty bird on the north shore this afternoon are about as good as they get.

This Arctic Tern, presumably a 2nd summer bird flew thru this morning. A small amount of white above the bill and a dark greyish hue to the forewing made me come to this conclusion.

This Marsh Harrier was hunting the south east bay at 10am. It was presumably sat hidden in the reeds before flying out west at midday.

Although its starting to quieten down on the migration front. There is always something to keep the interest going. A few bits and pieces from today.

The Spotted Flycatcher continues to sing in the plantation, though I've yet to see 2 together. Unfortunately it appears to have obtained a tick below it's left eye.

It's been the best year I can remember for breeding Lapwing, with 8 pairs nesting up to now. 5 of which have hatched young. A pair are still sitting and possibly some undetected are yet to appear? These 2 chicks appeared by the Hawkshutts hide today.
