I’m old enough to remember when Republicans welcomed people fleeing socialism. E.g.: in 2021 Trump ordered the deferral of deportation for Venezuelans and had work permits issued to them. In 2022, Marco Rubio wrote to Sec. Mayorkas asking to extend protection for Venezuelans.
