Centralisation makes infrastructure more expensive, because it breaks the linkage between overspending and political penalties. Excellent stuff by Ben Hopkinson – a good response to @[email protected]/@alonlevy.bsky.social (they) benhopkinson.substack.com/p/how-centrali…

14 years after being designated a national priority, 359,000 pages later, and ÂŁ300 million spent, the Lower Thames Crossing has finally gotten planning permission. It should have never taken this long or cost this much.

One outcome of the £300m, 359,000 page planning application was approval for the Lower Thames Crossing, another outcome should be comprehensive planning reform so no other infrastructure project has to do that again. My debut article in the The Spectator. spectator.co.uk/article/the-lo…

Amid the Spring Statement noise, the OBR projected ~1.1 million homes will be built in England by 2030, 400k homes short of Labour's 1.5m home pledge. That shortfall is Milton Keynes, Newcastle, and Plymouth combined. Me in the The Spectator again. spectator.co.uk/article/labour…

Confirmed in today’s Spring Statement: The Government no longer plans to build 1.5 million homes in England this Parliament.

Britain used to build. We now 'consult the stakeholders'. Here's how Britain became a consultation nation and why the Government are right to scrap consultation requirements for major infrastructure projects. samdumitriu.com/p/britain-is-a…

For over 60 years Scotland has built a proud nuclear heritage, delivering not just clean energy but well-paid jobs. But as things stand this is all set to end in 5 years time: right now any new nuclear power station or small modular reactor is BANNED in Scotland! 🧵
