Our paper "The Five Eyes Allies and China: Assessing Threat Perceptions and Power Dynamics" is out in Journal of Chinese Political Science! It offers a granular picture of the 5👁️s 🇭🇲🇨🇦🇬🇧🇳🇿🇺🇲 perspectives of 🇨🇳 - drawing on a long list of strategic documents since 2008 processed through coding.

The US is free to ignore Europe, but it also has less leverage without Europe. A deal w/out a European coalition (land, air or naval) in Ukraine is less attractive to Ukraine. A deal w/out European sanctions relief is less attractive to Russia. This is limited but real leverage.
