Nice to catch up with Sir Charles Scarburgh this week at Barber-Surgeons' Hall ... he was on the Gloucester in 1682 & survived by clinging to the wreckage & allegedly ousting DoY's 🐶 Mumper from it to survive ... here he is (in red) in 1651, delivering an anatomy lesson 🔪💀

Built c 1670, this elegant barge, located in the Victory Gallery at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, originally served as a state vessel for King Charles II. The barge’s most significant moment came in 1806, when it carried the coffin of Admiral Lord Nelson along the River Thames for his funeral.

NEW Hailed as the 'Holy Grail of shipwrecks', a wreck off the coast of Colombia has been theorised to be the lost San José Galleon. The results of a non-invasive study of coins from the wreck are published today in Antiquity, so here's an #AntiquityThread on the findings 1/13 🧵
