1/3 🔛 Uganda validates its updated Risk-Based Strategy for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) control. The strategy follows the Progressive Control Pathway (PCP-FMD) and aims to guide Uganda toward effective, sustainable FMD management. #AnimalHealth

2/3 The strategy was presented for expert review to ensure it’s scientifically sound and aligned with Uganda’s livestock systems, FMD risk profiles & socio-economic realities. Stakeholders included Government of Uganda, local authorities, academia, vets, farmers, & development partners.

3/3 Key goals: 🔹Endorse the final strategy 🔹Adapt it to current and emerging risks 🔹Align with global & regional standards 🔹Develop a roadmap for implementation, monitoring & resource mobilization

FMD control is a global concern with serious economic impact. It affects multiple value chains & requires full attention. This workshop helps us shape a strategy we can rely on, not just for FMD, but to strengthen control of other livestock diseases - Bessong Willington, FAO in Uganda.
