A great turnout at Sadacca Sheffield for our workshop on the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority consultation on bus franchising. People are hungry for change. But they want improvements on the system in London: - public ownership, like on our tram. - a vote over services for workers and passengers.

The workers who clean, shunt, and refuel First buses in Sheffield are bing mistreated, underpaid, and put at risk. Please sign this petition to support their call for fair pay and conditions.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/dema…

The head of the private bus company 'confederation' dismisses any responsibility for privatisation in our awful bus system. Thankfully, we only have to look at areas with public control and ownership to see they perform better. yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/c…

A decision on whether South Yorkshire's buses should be brought back under public control will be announced later. It's after Mayor Oliver Coppard held one of the biggest franchising consultation exercises ever undertaken in this country. Over 12-weeks 7600 people had their say.

South Yorkshire is set to announce today that it will bring buses back into public control. I started work on the campaign that became Better Buses for South Yorkshire in summer 2019. It took two mayors, two trades councils, a lot of passengers & a lot of stubbornness. But six years on we won 🚌

We're outside the South Yorkshire Mayoral Board. We're here to celebrate the move to bus franchising... ...and to call for us to reach the next stop — full public ownership.

🚨 BREAKING 🚨 It's official — South Yorkshire just became the latest area to re-regulate local bus services. Franchising brings more decisions under public control. But we need full public ownership too!

About 50 at Better Buses rally today as South Yorkshire starts franchising process. Everyone clear that we want proper conditions for bus workers to have a voice under franchising. Nice to see Martin Mayer driving bus from franchising bus stop to public ownership stop.
