1. See patient in acute pain 2. Prescribe pain medicine so they can avoid the ER 3. Patient goes to pharmacy, is told that pain medicine requires prior authorization by insurer (who gave no forewarning of such and will not reopen til next day) 4. Patient ends up in ER anyway

This is probably the BIGGEST lie we got told in Med School- that with today's medicines, we might not be able to cure everyone but that no patient had to suffer. Reality? We got the drugs but patients STILL suffer because they don't get them. SICK.
