Our PDN Lorenzo doing a talk on LD Nursing to our secondary school students who visited the BHRUT Career Fair. Lorenzo spoke about the barriers people with LD encounter and how LD Nurses can support them to access equitable healthcare and make a difference in their lives.

Our LD and Dementia Links/Champions session today was around exploring the values they hold as a person which contributes to the current workplace cultures they have and how this affects person-centred care for people with learning disabilities and dementia.

Today was a successful visit at LSBU meeting our Y3 LD student nurses and having converstions around joining the organisation and having career opportunities with us. Grateful to Ruth Green for being passionate & sharing her experiences to our future LD Nurses. 💕

We would like to promote the Little Journey App which is an added resource to prepare and support children with learning disabilities coming to our hospitals for blood tests, MRI, and paediatric surgeries. 📱 Available to download for free via Apple and Google Play stores.

A huge welcome to Margaret who is a Learning Disability Nurse that joined BHRUT during the recruitment drive in February 2025 as part of the LD Career Map vision. 🎊 She will be providing care as a Staff Nurse in the wards for both our service users and mainstream patients.

Happy Learning Disability Week 2025! To kick-start the week, we begin with our reasonable adjust for Monday, which would be about the Learning Disability Hospital Passport where it will give you invaluable information how to support someone in hospital.

Today we had our “Do you see me?”: LD transition conference at KGH Education Centre. It was a brilliant session delivered by our internal and external speakers who are all passionate on the work that they do in supporting Transition of young people into adult services. Amazing!⭐️

2nd day for LD week 2025 and our reasonable adjustment of the day is offering first or last appointment of the day. This adjustment allows for a less overwhelming experience, improving their ability to engage with the appointment and receive appropriate care.

We have set up a stall at Queen’s Hospital today as part of Learning Disability Week 2025 to promote Hospital passports for people with a learning disability as well as easy read resources that may support them in their journey in our hospitals.

Our reasonable adjustment today is around allowing families and carers to support our service-users. Our families and carers know the person best, and can support the staff in providing person centred care in our hospitals.

People with learning disabilities may struggle to understand what you mean when they’re in hospital. Today’s reasonable adjustment is about using simple language and avoiding medical jargon when communicating with our service-users.

Today we had our LD Working Group Potluck Tea Party event. A huge thank you to our LD champions, service-users, families and carers who continue to make improvements at our hospitals. 🙌🎉

In conclusion of LD Week 2025, this reasonable adjustment manages sensory overload, reduces anxiety, and improves focus. A quiet space provides refuge from an overwhelming environment, allowing them to regulate emotions and engage effectively.

The winners of the Learning Disability Information Board competition are King George Hospital-Erica Ward & Queen’s Hospital- Bluebell A. Our LD Working Group member David was present to award the areas who won the competition and meet the staff! 🎉👏 amazing team work!
