When you tell us we don’t “deserve to survive” just because we can’t do something, you’re not just being hateful and cruel. You’re also showing how bad you would be at survival if you were in our shoes. You’re proving you lack the ability to adapt.

Every disabled person is different. We all adapt to our unique situation and do what we need to survive. You don’t need to understand it but you do need to accept it. We don’t need your permission to access an accommodation. We deserve to live just as much as you.

This recent push towards institutionalization has me very worried, because people act like if we can’t cook for ourselves or clean our own homes we “deserve” to lose our entire autonomy Never mind the fact that many able bodied people can’t (or won’t) do those things either.
