An appeal: does anyone recognise this Jewish refugee Lily who was taken in by the Kendrick family in Oxshott, Surrey during WWII? It would be wonderful to find out more about Lily... and is she still alive???

New £50 note rightly celebrates the unique Alan Turing 'Enigma Code'. But let's not forget unsung hero Bill Tutte who broke the 'Lorenz Code'. Hitler called Lorenz his "secrets writer" and considered it unbreakable. Used for most sensitive info & German plans.

Prof. Frank McDonough In terms of codebreaking, he ranks below Bill Tutte who cracked the Tunny/Lorenz code - which was far harder than Naval Enigma. In terms of the evolution of the modern computer, he was no more (or less) significant than Charles Babbage, Ada Lovelace & many others.

I'm really excited to hear that Royal Mail are releasing a set of stamps called "Valour and Victory" to celebrate VE Day 80. And who is one of the celebrated heroes? Only the incredible William "Bill" Tutte, you can even see the Lorenz SZ42 behind him! 😍eadt.co.uk/news/25112166.…
