Our Frontiers in Medicine paper is out today! We developed a system to help detect Parkinson's Disease based on altered pupillary responses - a possible biomarker for PD. Great work by Thasina Tabashum and Ting Xiao with ophthalmologist Bruce Gaynes. frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

Wishing a fond farewell to our first graduating MS student HsivaH who created a deep learning fall detection model for an airbag belt to help mitigate falls. Joined us in the first few days of the lab and stuck with us throughout. Moving on to Austin/Whole Foods HQ!

Neat way we kept a sense of community through the pandemic: The AI program at UNT has maintained a half-hour "AI Tea Time" regularly for over a year now. Cameras on, mics on, with multiple breakout rooms just to chat about AI or whatever else. A seminar or Q&A after every time.

Just wrapped up this summer's NSF REU on Accelerated Deep Learning. Great projects & sync with the UNT AI Summer Program. Goodbye to the 10 REU students that worked with PIs Hui Zhao and Mark V. Albert. More to be posted as their DL projects get published. Glad to be a part.

Want a class project to be “plugged in” to the university network? Vandana Nunna and Lin Lin presented our prototype portal this week at #AECT2021 to manage class project selection and coordination across multiple courses and students for sponsors at UNT.

Recent pub! Our deep-learning summary metric demonstrated that each K2 amputee showed improvement in prosthetic performance using a microprocessor-controlled knee relative to a mechanical knee, which may influence the inconsistent support in K2 subjects. mdpi.com/2306-5354/9/10…
